Subs, or bass bins as they are sometimes referred to, are there not only to deliver the bass as the name suggests, but also to compliment the other components within the PA speaker set up. Some bass bins within this price range are missing a couple of vital ingredients, namely a quality low pass filter and a punchy, quality sub woofer. A simple test when comparing bass bins is to disconnect the top speaker and have good listen.

All you should be able to hear is the low end of the track, ie bass guitar, bass drum a maybe a touch of very low mid. You shouldn’t be able to hear anything within the vocal range. This is because the low pass filter is doing its job of only delivering low end. You can then comfortably rely on the fact that the high end speaker, such as a TM12 or 15 will be working equally as hard to do it’s job of delivering the ‘punch’ and the vocal clarity.
